Local Legends - Allegheny Sport and Outdoor Film Festival

Allegheny Sport & Outdoor is a Pittsburgh-based film festival celebrating sport, outdoor culture and adventure documentary films with a special emphasis on stories from Western Pennsylvania, Northern Appalachia and the Mid-Atlantic region. Founded in 2023, ASOFF showcases talented athletes, teams, and outdoor clubs alongside passionate local and international filmmakers. ASOFF is co-presented by Malhari Media and Rocketfuel Studios, local filmmaking companies that are committed to uplifting their community's stories.

This "Local Legends" screening showcases the accomplishments of local individuals and organizations that are making a difference in their sports and communities.  The program includes five documentaries:

“We Ride” (65 min. dir. by Dan Finegold), following three cyclists from Pittsburgh Youth Leadership endeavoring to cycle across America in just 18 days; “To Be The Man” (3 min. dir. by Alden Roth), which focuses on Michael “Gagz” Gagliardi’s battle for a 5th consecutive win at the Loopy Looper 12-hour Endurance Race;  “First Waves Beaver County” (5 min. dir. by Rishi Sethi) documents the expansion of the Watersmith Guild's groundbreaking youth environmental education program into the Beaver and Ohio River valleys in the aftermath of the opening of the ethylene cracker plant and its penalties for pollution; "Richard Hamilton" (4 min. dir. by Luke Keibler) a documentary about a man who likes to cut wood, and how he's made an art and craft out of being a Professional Chainsaw Carver; and “Heaven on Earth” (15 min. dir. Tina Kakadelis), featuring Pittsburgh’s Highland Park Tennis Club-- which has been offering free summer lessons since 2000 in an effort to expand the sport to those who cannot afford it. This film follows the club as they prepare for the beginning of the 2023 season.
